Rhode Island State Firefighters League Foundation Charitable Trust Posted November 26, 2018
The RI State Firefighters League Foundation Charitable Trust is sponsoring an ongoing telephone fundraiser. Donations can be picked up by a staff member or mailed. Proceeds will be used for the education and training of all firefighters in the State of Rhode Island. The Rhode Island State Firefighters League Foundation Charitable Trust is a 501c3 corporation registered with the RI Department of Business Regulation. We appreciate your support.
Mini-Grants Available Posted March 29, 2018
The Rhode Island State Firefighters League Foundation Charitable Trust is now also offering mini grants to league member departments. The mini grants will be made for one night training sessions at the host department that would be open to all of their neighboring departments. The mini grants would be limited to $150.00 and would be used to pay for the expense of an outside instructor as well as class handouts and light refreshments. There is no cost sharing requirement.
Andrew M. "Buzz" Haggerty
The Rhode Island State Firefighters League regrets to announce the passing of former League President Andrew M. "Buzz" Haggerty. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. May he rest in peace. Funeral Arrangements are posted below.
Andrew M. "Buzz" Haggerty, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away at The Westerly Hospital with his family by his side on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was 73.
A lifelong resident of Westerly, Buzz was custodian of the Westerly School Dept. for more than 30 years, retiring in 2002. Buzz served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was also a life member of the Dunns Corners Fire Dept. where he had served as a 1st Deputy Chief and in several other capacities. He was a past president of the R.I. Assoc. of Fire Chiefs and a life member of RIMS.
He leaves his loving wife of 45 years, Deborah Jean (Leonetti) Haggerty of Westerly; his three daughters, Brona Haggerty, Carolyn Kelley and Andi Kenyon and her husband Keith, all also of Westerly. In addition, Buzz is survived by three siblings, Thomas Haggerty of Westerly, James Haggerty of Bradford and Marjorie Rose of N. Stonington; four grandchildren, Savannah and Xavier Kelley and Brody and Karlin Kenyon; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m., at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Funeral Service with Full Military Honors on Saturday at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be private. New Public Safety Officer Benefits Form Posted April 29, 2011
A new beneficiary form that is accepted for the Public Safety Officer Benefits program is now available. This form can be used in place of the original six page form. All Fire Departments should print this form on their own letterhead, have each volunteer firefighter complete the form in private, and maintain the forms in a secure file in individually sealed envelope at the station. These forms should be reviewed and updated annually.
